Pilipinas Taj Autogroup Inc., the exclusive distributor of India’s Tata vehicles, expects to boost its sales by 60 percent in 2015 amid the popularity of multicab vehicles.

Pilipinas Taj director Freddie Raquelsantos said the company expected to sell at least 1,600 units this year, up from 1,000 units last year.

He said the company’s growth in 2014 was basically due to market acceptability of its “Ace” multicab, which accounted for 80 percent of Tata cars sales.

“The small commercial vehicle segment like multicabs is growing because buyers now realize the reliability of the brand new models compared with the chop chop second hand units,” Raquelsantos said.

He said Tata models were better than most imported vehicles, because they were already Euro 4 compliant.

He said if the good sales trend was sustained, the company might contemplate on setting up local assembly in the Philippines.

“We are studying the volume because we have also higher import tariff at 30 percent,” he said.
