Maynilad Water Services Inc., the water concessionaire for the west zone of Metro Manila, is spending P17.3 billion this year to fund water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

Maynilad announced the 2015 capital expenditures, after an international appeals panel handling the arbitration proceedings between Maynilad and state-owned Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System recently ruled in favor of an increase in the base water rate.

Maynilad said it allotted P6.5 billion or over a third of capital spending for wastewater management projects, including the construction of wastewater treatment plants and conveyance systems in Cavite and central Manila.

The water utility firm is also investing P3.2 billion to reduce water loss in the distribution network and another P2 billion for the development of water sources, including the second phase of the Angat-Umiray trans-basin tunnel and the rehabilitation and upgrade of existing facilities in the Angat and Ipo Dams.

Maynilad said to ensure sufficient water supply and pressure in the west zone of Metro Manila, it would spend P1.5 billion to construct, rehabilitate and upgrade boosters, pumping stations and reservoirs.

Maynilad is also spending P1.4 billion to reach more households within its concession area, including portions of Caloocan, Cavite, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Parañaque and Valenzuela and more than P1.3 billion to lay primary lines in Caloocan, Cavite and Pasay that will connect more areas to Maynilad’s network.

Other programmed spending for the year include upgrade of Maynilad’s water treatment plants, modernization of data management and information systems and possible acquisitions of new facilities.
