Standard Chartered Bank said it appointed Anirvan Ghosh Dastidar, an Indian national, as the chief executive for the Philippines.

Anirvan, prior to the appointment, served as the bank’s chief executive in Sri Lanka.  He reports to Lim Cheng Teck, chief executive of Standard Chartered Bank, Asean.

Anirvan has a career spanning over two decades in banking, having started his career with ANZ Grindlays Bank. He previously held senior positions in Standard Chartered Bank India as business head for wealth management, priority banking and distribution before moving to Sri Lanka to first head the consumer banking business.

“We see the Philippines as having an exciting future and an increasingly powerful economic role in the region. Its economic fundamentals remain strong with an estimated 6 percent GDP growth in 2015. Anirvan has held various leadership roles in his banking career which will lead our franchise in the Philippines,” said Lim.

Dastidar said as the Philippines strengthened its position in the region against a backdrop of strong government policies, urbanization and favorable demographics, “we expect to see robust and sustained economic growth.”
