Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. has emphasized the need for camaraderie and teamwork for effective public service by local government units (LGUs) across the country.
Abalos made the statement as he opened the first Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Cup 2024.
“What we will show in the game, teamwork and above all we will show in the service of each LGU and agency is our teamwork or team play in serving,” Abalos said.
The inaugural MMDA Cup 2024 Sports Festival is aimed at promoting friendship and camaraderie among government employees while participating in various games held at Filoil Ecooil Centre in San Juan City.
With Abalos were MMDA chairman Romando Artes; San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora; Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco; Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna; Pasay City Mayor Imelda Calixto-Rubiano; and Philippine Basketball Association chairman Willie Marcial.
Abalos said that extracurricular activities, especially sports-related ones such as the MMDA Cup 2024, are significant in ensuring the welfare of government employees amid the high demand and stressful work in the government sector.
“This [MMDA Cup 2024] is very important because honestly in every LGU sometimes its employees are stressed, every day there are problems. So it’s good for exercise and camaraderie,” he explained. Vince Lopez
