Sandiganbayan gives Abalos time to file appeal on graft case

The arraignment on the graft case against Former Comelec Chairman Benjamin Abalos Sr. at the Sandiganbayan has been moved to April 27, 2017.

This is to give Abalos the chance to file a motion for reconsideration in a ruling handed down by the anti-graft court.

The Sandiganbayan had declared that the case against Abalos officially began on August 13, 2013 when it was filed in the docket section by the Ombudsman.

But Abalos is insisting that the case actually started on October 9, 2008 because this was the date stated in the document.

Abalos is citing undue delay as part of his defense.

In a hearing at the anti-graft court on Thursday morning, Abalos said, he intends to submit an affidavit in the next proceeding to prove his point.

Abalos is being charged with graft for the alleged anomalous purchase of two units of Toyota Revo worth P 1.7 million in 2003.
