‘Use patrol cars properly’

DAVAO CITY—President Rodrigo Duterte reminded city police to never use police mobile patrol vehicles for their personal use during the turnover ceremony at the Crime Laboratory compound here.

President Duterte led the turnover of the 26 sports utility vehicles donated by the Japanese government together with Japanese Ambassador Koji Haneda, Philippine National Police Director General Ronald dela Rosa, Police Regional Office 11 Chief Supt. Manuel Gaerlan, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, and Davao City Police Office Sr. Supt. Alexander Tagum.

The SUVs were part of 100 patrol vehicles donated by the Japanese government to the PNP last November.

“[These vehicles] should not be used for personal errands for any officer. It should be where the regulation directs them to be where they are,” President Duterte said.

It is best for the police offices to create their maintenance schedule of the new patrol cars to ensure their good condition and preserve them, said Davao’s longtime leader before becoming Chief Executive.

The President thanked the Japanese Government, who he said “remains to be in a good relationship with the Philippines since the 1980s,” for its generosity.

“We are truly grateful to the people and government of Japan for their unwavering support for this administration and the Filipino people,” he said.

Haneda also assured the President the Japanese are looking forward to extend the countries’ cooperation and friendship.

“As maintaining peace and order is one of the President’s main priority, we are happy to help him on his campaign,” Haneda said.

Tagum assured the President that the vehicles are in good hands, and that the DCPO will never use them for personal errands.

“I have already asked Mayor Sara Duterte to hire more than 70 civilian drivers that will be in charge of the patrol cars of the DCPO, including its maintenance,” he said.

Tagum said the SUVs will be assigned to the Mobile Patrol Group, which goes around the different parts of the city for faster dispatch and response.
