Some 1,084 internally displaced persons or IDPs in Marawi City have received skills training from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

Tesda director general Guiling Mamondiong said the training will give the IDPs a new lease on life following the war in Marawi, which was finally liberated from terrorists last week.

Their new skills are expected to open new opportunities for the IDPs when they find jobs here and abroad, Mamondiong said.

He expects an increase in the number of students who wanted to enroll under the Tesda scholarship program after the Marawi siege.

The Tesda chief encouraged the people of Marawi who want to avail of the scholarship to visit the nearest agency office or check its official website www.tesda.gov.ph for information.

Records showed that 291 students were men and 793 were women. At least 261 men completed their chosen course, while 741 women have finished their courses.

Tesda also gave 2,500 affected families relief goods such as rice, canned goods, water, assorted hygiene materials, noodles, food packs, slippers, towels, and other necessities.

The Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte-National Executive Coordination Committee, in tandem with TESDA, assisted some 4,000 people affected by the Marawi crisis.
