National University turns back Adamson in high school volleyball

National University, the reigning four-time girls’ champions, improved to 2-0 following a tough 25-16, 22-25, 25-27, 25-12, 15-7 win over Adamson University in the UAAP Season 81 high school volleyball tournament Wednesday at the Blue Eagle Gym.

Alyssa Solomon had 19 points and nine digs while Faith Nisperos and Sheena Toring each scored 16 markers as the Bullpups rallied from a 1-2 set deficit and overcame 47 errors to beat the Baby Falcons.

May Ann Nuique had six blocks to finish with 13 points for Adamson University, which dropped at 2-1 in third place.

Imee Hernandez had 13 points while Regina Jurado added 12 hits as University of Santo Tomas topped Far Eastern University-Diliman, 25-20, 25-23, 25-20, to join NU on top with its second straight victory.

University of the East swept UP Integrated School,  25-19, 25-17, 25-22, in the other girls match to enter the win column. 

NU became the remaining undefeated team in the boys division as it bested FEU-Diliman, 25-20, 21-25, 25-16, 25-18.

Pol Santiago and Lorence Cruz teamed up for 19 points to help the Bullpups extend their perfect run to three matches.

Jose Javelona had 14 points for the Baby Tamaraws, whose two-game winning streak was snapped.

FEU fell in a tie with Adamson University, a 25-18, 25-7, 25-14 winner over Ateneo, and UST, which defeated UE, 25-18, 25-17, 25-18, at 2-1.

De La Salle-Zobel downed UPIS, 25-15, 25-13, 25-10, for its first win.
