THE Beach Volleyball Republic is making waves as it announced its 2017 National Championships at a press conference last Tuesday.

The BVR National Championships will happen on July 28 to 30 at Anguib Beach, Sta. Ana, Cagayan, marking the second time Cagayan Grand Adventure & Leisure is hosting a BVR tournament.

The tournament will have two divisions, men and women, each composed of 16 teams divided into four pools playing a single round robin game in search of the top four.

Aside from the championship, players will also vie for a chance to be part of the national training pool competing in the Southeast Asian Beach Volleyball Championships to be hosted by Singapore this September.

Delimondo’s Joey Alvaro, CGAL’s Jimmy Escano, Delimondo’s Kristen Enrile, BVR founders Bea Tan and Charo Soriano, and tourney director Tony Liao promise a competitive National Championship tournament on July 28. Kevin San Pedro

Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Vice President Peter Cayco is in talks to include the top three players from both BVR and Philippine SuperLiga  tournaments as potential candidates for the SEA Games, according to BVR Spokesperson Charo Soriano.

“That does not guarantee that they are the ones representing,” said Soriano. “We want to be able to make sure that we have a solid national training pool, nandiyan po ‘yung process na mamimili po ng coaches and trainers for the players din po and nasa kanila po ‘yung final decision kung sino po talaga ipapadala nila sa Singapore.”

Owing to its rising popularity and increase in sponsors, beach volleyball is stronger than ever in the Philippines with tournaments sprouting in beach locales all over the country, led by BVR.

Delimondo Food Specialties Inc. has sponsored BVR for a long time and will continue supporting its events, according to Delimondo Representative, Joey Alvaro.

“I hope that you [all] continue to support not only BVR but beach volleyball in general here in the Philippines,” Soriano added. “Because only with all our efforts being combined together that we can really grow the sport and help the next generation of athletes.”
