There’s a star in the making for Team Lakay.

Filipino featherweight Jerry “The Bokodian Warrior” Olsim continued to impress as he makes a case for himself as a future ONE Championship star with a string of impressive performances in Rich Franklin’s ONE Warrior Series.

Olsim scored a unanimous decision win over Myeong Gu Kim of South Korea at OWS 6 held in Singapore last 20 June.

Hoping that a victory will secure him a golden ticket to the ONE Championship main roster, Olsim’s talents and toughness were in full display against his South Korean counterpart as they battled back and forth in an exciting contest which was later given the ‘Warrior Award’ for the action.

Although he failed to get the contract, Team Lakay head coach Mark Sangiao is still happy with the progress of his prized pupil.

"I congratulated him for a job well done and a great display of athleticism. I just told him to keep on training," Sangiao said.

“It was ‘Fight Of The Night’, so that was really an excellent performance from Jerry in Singapore. Not only him, but his opponent was also good. It was a stellar performance for both of them.”

He might have missed out on a contract now, but Sangiao is confident that big things are in the horizon for Olsim.

"In the big leagues, considering he’s young, I know he’ll go places," said Sangiao.

“I am telling him now that he is a star in the making. He’ll be a star in ONE for as long as he remains hungry.”

The key, according to Sangiao, is consistency in training.

“As they say, if you want to be the best – train with the best. That’s a huge factor in his development,” said Sangiao.

"Training, training, and training. That should be [his routine] every day so he can work on his weaknesses.”
