Pacio confident of a clean sweep for Team Lakay in Japan

After seeing how his teammates have trained for the past few months, former ONE Strawweight World Champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio has no doubt in his mind that his Team Lakay comrades will come away with a clean sweep in Tokyo, Japan.

ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, ONE Bantamweight World Champion Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon, and former ONE World Title challenger Danny “The King” Kingad are set to fly the Philippines’ flag high at ONE: A NEW ERA, which emanates from the Ryogoku Kokugikan this coming Sunday, 31 March.

Pacio has been helping the trio prepare for their respective battles, and he believes their hard work and dedication will play a big factor when they enter the cage in the Japanese capital.

“This is definitely the biggest matches of their careers. I witnessed how they increased their dedication, hard work, and hunger just to make sure that they will win in Tokyo,” Pacio shared.

“Training has been put to the next level, and everyone has shared their ideas to build a perfect game plan that will lead them to victory.”

Pacio, who is set to challenge for the ONE Strawweight World Title at ONE: ROOTS OF HONOR in Manila on Friday, 12 April, knows his teammates are particularly motivated because they view this as the perfect opportunity to make a statement for their country.

For years, the Philippines have been on the rise in mixed martial arts. A sweep here would cement the country’s presence in the sport — not only in Asia, but in the rest of the world.

“ONE: A NEW ERA is the biggest card in ONE Championship history. All eyes will be in Tokyo on the 31st of the month,” Pacio said.

“They want to win to make Filipinos all over the world proud. They want to show the rest of the world where hard work and dedication can lead you to.”

Each of the three face monstrous tests in Japan.

Folayang defends his lightweight belt in a rematch against Aoki, Belingon defends the bantamweight gold in a trilogy bout against Bibiano Fernandes, and Kingad faces Pancrase Flyweight World Champion Senzo Ikea in a ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix quarter-final bout.

Despite the daunting task waiting for them in Tokyo, “The Passion" has little doubt as to what will happen on event day.

“I know that my Team Lakay brothers will be facing tough challenges in Tokyo, but their opponents should be the ones who need to be worried because they will be facing a different Folayang, Belingon, and Kingad this coming Sunday,” Pacio said.

“I’m very confident that it will be an 11clean sweep for Team Lakay in Tokyo. Their hands and the Philippine flags will be raised at the end of the night.

“No doubt it will be 3-0 for Team Lakay at ONE: A NEW ERA.”
