Being healthy is actually its own reward but this wellness program rewards users for living healthy.

Leonardo Tan, Chief Marketing Officer, PhilamLife said they made the Philam Vitality app to be different from the other insurance plans.

“I guess the first thing why we came up with Philam Vitality is Number 1 as a brand in the life insurance category we just talk about finances, we talk about protection. So we wanted something to be made different. Something that will appeal to millennials and we thought of a program that will promote total wellness,” said Tan.

“The first stage is knowing their wellness. So you go online for the assessment. The second is improving your health so when you synch your steps using your device that gets logged and depending on the number of points, you get the reward.”

The Philam executive said millennials are very digital savvy and would be attracted with an app that is also an aid to wellness.

“Everyone’s on Facebook. Everyone’s on Instagram. So we said it has to be digital. So that’s the reason we married digital technology and total wellness. That’s how we formed PhilAm Vitality. It’s already on its fourth year. A little bit young but not so young. So we’re trying to promote a little more membership to it,” said Tan.

“There are two platforms. One is for you to earn your points. The second is what we call the weekly rewards. The weekly rewards, that’s where you earn two cups of coffee. Where you get free cinema.”

The app is also responsive to the fitness level of the user because otherwise it may bore the user if it’s too easy to use or may be too daunting to be interesting.

“What we do is depending on your fitness level we try to challenge you more. So when you’re starting your exercise journey, konti lang ang requirements mo to get the points. But if you’re already that athlete—like an IRONMAN 70.3 athlete —we’ll challenge you with higher goals so that you won’t feel that this is too easy for me,” said Tan.

“We have what we call dynamic rewards. Dynamic points and dynamic rewards. There’s an algorithm that we use based on the number of steps and the intensity that are logged into your fitness device and into the app. So ito na That’s how we set the targets for the user.”

Tan said PhilAm Vitality is a program that is used on all their markets across Asia. It’s being used by 18 markets. Based in South Africa. However, the partners and the rewards are necessarily local because you need to have partners that are located here in the Philippines to be able to give rewards to Filipino users.
