The National Bureau of Investigation will be involved once again in efforts to resolve legal cases the concerns the national sports association, athletes, coaches and officials.
Philippine Sports Commission Chairman William Ramirez said this after the government sports agency signed a memorandum of agreement with the Department of Justice last Wednesday.
“We will seek guidance from there. Whether with the prosecutors or with the NBI, since accountability is expected of us,” said Ramirez.
The PSC plans to adopt a “no liquidation, no assistance” policy in the coming year.
This is for national sports associations which have internal disputes and those that have unliquidated financial assistance within 30 days after getting funds from the PSC.
“We need the help of other agencies to proceed (on this),” added Ramirez.
It was the first time the PSC partnered with DOJ on such matters.
In line with the requirements of the DOJ, the agency is creating a task force that will coordinate and work closely on standing cases and other conflicts that may be referred by the PSC.
Last year, the NBI filed cases of malversation of public funds against Philippine Karatedo Federation official Raymund Lee-Reyes, who got into trouble after members of the national team that went to Germany for training in July 2017 said that they did not receive their allowances in full.
