Racasa defeats Swiss

The Philippines’ youngest Woman Fide Master (WFM) Antonella Berthe “Tonelle” Murillo Racasa (1342) bounced back from a back-to-back losses by downing Manoush Toth (1576) of Switzerland in the World Cadets Chess Championships on Wednesday (Manila time) in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain.

The win enabled the 11-year-old Racasa to raise her score to four points in nine outings and keep her hopes for the top 20 finish in the Under-12 girls’ division.

“Yes! Antonella demolished her highly rated Swiss opponent in round 9. The difference in their Fide rating is a whopping 234 points. Praise God for this victory. The Philippines (1342) vs Switzerland (1576),” said father/coach Roberto Racasa.

Her European trip is sponsored by Philippine Sports Commission, National Chess Federation of the Philippines, Mandaluyong City Mayor Menchie Abalos, councilor Charisse Marie Abalos-Vargas, Herminio “Hermie” Esguerra of Herma Group of Companies and sportsman Reli de Leon.

She was also supported by Rotary Club of Pasig thru Engineer Rogelio Lim, Dr. Jess Acantillado and Philippine Executive Chess Association President lawyer Cliburn Anthony A. Orbe as she takes on Elizaveta Andrukhovich (1508) of Belarus in the tenth and penultimate round.

Meanwhile, Savitha Shri B (1745) of India defeated Julia Volovich (1735) of Switzerland to remain on top with 8.5 points on account of eight wins and a draw after nine games of play, half point ahead with Woman Candidate Master (WCM) Umida Omonova (1854) of Uzbekistan, who brought down Woman Fide Master Margarita Zvereva (1787) of Russia.
