The task of assembling a competitive Philippine national delegation will take place 14 months before the start of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.
Makati Rep. Monsour del Rosario, who has been named as the Team Pilipinas’ Chef de Mission is all set to go into talks with various heads of national sports associations in the coming month.
“Ang request ko at panawagan ko sa lahat ng mga officials ng NSAs ay magsama-sama sila at magtulungan sa pagkuha ng pinakamagaling na atleta,” said Del Rosario, who is currently the secretary general of the Philippine Taekwondo Association.
He believes that there will enough time for the Philippines to prepare for games.
The last time the Philippines hosted the games in 2005, it took the overall championship.
“For the glory of the country, I hope to meet on the NSAs on the composition of the Philippine delegation,” added Del Rosario.
He said he will take on the task of assembling the Philippine delegation, while he is about to get busy with the 2019 national elections.
Del Rosario was invited to run for Senator by officials of the PDP-Laban last Aug. 31.
PDP-Laban party president and Senator Koko Pimentel and Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez have recently met with Del Rosario, asking him to join their ticket.
He will ask two or three other NSA leaders to join him in supervising the formation and preparation of the national delegation when he does get involved in the coming polls this March.
By next month, Del Rosario said he will be ready to plunge into a series of meetings and appoint sports leaders who can join him in monitoring the progress of the training and preparations of many athletes.
