The Philippines will join in the celebration of the founding of the Olympic movement by staging a half-day, fun-filled event this weekend at the Philsports Arena
The Philippine Olympic Committee adds a twist to its Olympic Day Run on June 30 by incorporating a friendly Obstacle course competition and zumba.
The change is in accordance to the theme 'Move,' 'Learn,' 'Discover' adopted by the International Olympic Committee for this year.
"But we still have the regular torch run in cooperation with the Philippine Olympian Association through Akiko Thomson," said Karen Tanchanco Caballero in the weekly Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum at the Tapa King Restaurant at Farmers Plaza in Cubao.
Top officials of the POC, Philippine Sports Commission, National Sports Association heads, and athletes are joining the event to commemorate the founding of the modern Olympics.
Also gracing them are members of the POA led by 2016 Olympic silver medal winner Hidilyn Diaz.
"Expect our Olympians from yester years who brought honor to the country to be there," said Caballero in the forum presented by San Miguel Corp., Tapa King, and PAGCOR.
The event starts as early as 6 a.m and is open to the public.
"We open it to the public kaya we have mga age groupers from other sports," Caballero added
Caballero, who is also president of the sepak takraw association, expressed gratitude to the Philippine Obstacle Sports Federation under Atty. Al Agra, who will supervise part of the special meet.
