Municipality of T’boli nails 4 Indigenous Games’ golds

The Municipality of T’boli clinched four gold medals in the recent second Indigenous People’s Games held in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.

Philippine Sports Commissioner Charles Raymond Maxey receives a T’nalak as a token of gratitude from Lake Sebu Mayor Antonio B. Fungan for the successful staging of the recent 2nd Indigenous Peoples Games in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.

The Municipality of T’boli ruled the meyon kuda law event, likened to horse racing, but using wild grass as horse, over Tampakan and Lake Sebu-T’boli Tribe that settled for the silver and bronze, respectively.

The municipality’s other golds came from the sudul event, with players JR Abid, Erwin Ala, Jessie Kalan, Victor Sugan and Junsie Dala, besting Lake Sebu-T’boli Tribe and Tubi; sedegol be klifak bliboy over Lake Sebu-T’boli Tribe and Lake Sebu Ubo Tribe; and youth hemanak (archery) at the expense of Lake Sebu-T’boli and Municipality of Lake Sebu.

The youth defut gold went to Lake Sebu-Ubo Tribe, led by Jerry Dasan, Freddie Layo, Ronie Dasan, Richard Tang and Rudy Dasan while Municipality of T’boli got the silver and Tupi copped the bronze.

Lake Sebu-T’boli Tribe, meanwhile, prevailed over Lake Sebu-Ubo Tribe and Municipality of T’boli for the setanggung (lechon race) gold medal and doubled the feat with another gold in hanaw event by beating Lake Sebu-Ubo Tribe and Municipality of T’boli.

Philippine Sports Commission Commissioner Charles Raymond A. Maxey reiterated his gratitude to Lake Sebu Mayor Antonio B. Fungan for hosting the second leg of the IPG that aims to aims to preserve, promote and propagate the rich cultural heritage of the IPs as embodied in Republic Act (RA) 8371, also known as the IP Right Act of 1997, and at the same time provide equal opportunities for all as mandated by President Rodrigo Duterte to the agency.

South Cotabato Gov. Daisy Avance-Fuentes, during the opening ceremonies, thanked the PSC for bringing the IP Games in the province.

“Pinagmamalaki dapat natin ang ating roots. Hindi natin nakakalimutan anuman ang mga tribo natin,” she said, adding that she urged the Provincial Board to craft an ordinance to make a provincial celebration of the tribes that will also showcase the IP Games.
