Diaz, the defending Asian Games champion, lifted 94 kilograms in snatch, and then cleared 115 in clean and jerk, for a total 209.

This gave Diaz second place in the women’s 55-kilogram category.

China’s Liao Quiyun took the gold after lifting 96 kgs in the snatch, hitting a world record of 128 kgs in the clean and jerk for a total of 224.

Muattar Nabieva of Uzbekistan claimed the bronze with a 91 kgs lift in the snatch, a 113 in the clean and jerk, and a 204 total.

Medals are awarded separately in the world and continental championships, as opposed to a single medal in the Olympics.

The Asian tournament started on April 17 and concludes on April 29. It serves as a qualifying event for the Tokyo Olympics.

The 28-year old Diaz is seeking a fourth Olympics appearance following her first campaign in Beijing in 2008.

Diaz won the gold in the Asian Games in Jakarta last year.
