Playing a consistent game will help the Nazareth School-National University Bullpups get far in the 81st University Athletic Association of the Philippines junior basketball tournament.

Coach Goldwyn Monteverde said this after the Bullpups turned back the defending champion Ateneo Blue Eaglets, 78-71, last Sunday at The Arena in San Juan.

“We try to be consistent in our game. Nu’ng bumaba intensity namin, doon sila nakakakuha ng garbage points,” said Monteverde.

With their 7-1 win-loss record, the Bullpups are now in the solo lead at the start of the second round as they seek to solidify their hold on the top spot when they meet University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs at 1 p.m. today.

The Blue Eaglets, who dropped to a share of third with Adamson at 5-3, will try to stop their slide of back-to-back losses they suffered at the hands of the Bullpups, when they face University of the East at 3 p.m.

Carl Tamayo only had seven points but it was his three-point play with 46.3 ticks left which finally allowed the Bullpups to move out of range, 73-69.
