US sports envoys to hold basketball clinics in Davao

American sports envoys Cherokee Parks of the National Basketball Association and Alana Beard of the Women’s National Basketball Association will conduct a free basketball clinic to some 150 coaches and Physical Education teachers in Davao region this week.

Parks is an NBA Basketball Operations Associate since October 2017. He was a No. 12 in overall 1995 NBA Draft and played 12 seasons in the NBA with the Dallas Mavericks, Minnesota Timberwolves, Vancouver Grizzlies, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Clippers, San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors.

Beard, meanwhile, was a four-time WNBA All-Star from 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009 and earned WNBA All-Defensive Team honors six times.

The coaches’ clinic, a joint endeavor of the US Embassy and the Philippine Sports Commission, is only part of a series that will be conducted in Davao City starting Thursday until Saturday.

“The clinic is in line with the agency’s continuous promotion and development of Philippine sports as well as strengthen international linkages through sports,” said PSC Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez.

 The Alaska Aces will assist in conducting the clinics.
