De La Salle takes on UP

THREE matches that will crucial to the race for the remaining three Final Four spots are up today in the UAAP Season 80 men’s football tournament at the FEU-Diliman pitch.

De La Salle takes on league-leading University of the Philippines at 4 p.m., while National University and University of the East, both sitting under the top four border at 2 p.m.

University of Santo Tomas and winless Adamson University collide in the morning match at 8 a.m.

The Green Archers and the Growling Tigers are currently holding third and fourth spots in the table with 16 and 15 points, respectively.

The Bulldogs and the Red Warriors, who have 13 and 10, respectively, are in dire need of getting full points to keep their semis hopes alive.

Still unbeaten this season with eight wins and two draws, the Fighting Maroons became the first Final Four qualifier with 26 points. Defending champion Ateneo, which is one off the lead, has already assured of a semis playoff.

De La Salle boosted its semis hopes following a 1-0 squeaker over Far Eastern University, with Jeremiah Bernaldez delivering the late winner last Sunday.

NU hopes to bounce back from a 0-2 loss to UP also on Sunday, where it surrendered two late goals after holding the Maroons in the first 86 minutes of play.

UE is coming off a week-long lay-off after a 0-3 defeat from the hands of UP that kept the Recto-based side winless in the second round.
