A BUDGET reaching the P1-billion mark will be allocated for repair, renovation and construction of facilities that will be used for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Sen. Joel Vilanueva said this is because facilities that will be used for the Games must meet international standards.

As vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, Villanueva  said they have managed to augment the budget after coordinating with the Philippines Sports Commission.

“We are looking into this and coordinating with Secretary (Allan Peter) Cayetano,” said Villanueva.

Villanueva, who is from Bulacan, said this is exciting development for his province since the Games will be held mostly in the Central Luzon area.

He talked about the Philippines’ SEAG hosting following Thursday’s launch of the FIBA 3×3 World that will also be held in the Philippine Arena.

Cayetano, the SEA Games 2019 Organizing Committee chairman, recently tasked working group member Julian Camacho to join an ocular inspection last Monday in Clark Field,Pampanga.

“We are capitalizing on Clark, Subic and the Philippine Arena when it comes to infrastructure,” added Villanueva.

So far, a track oval and an aquatic center are now being constructed. They are expected to be finished by the end of the year.

Camacho was in Pampanga to visit the venues of the Games with Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr. and former Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Richie Garcia.
