Celebrating moon landing’s 50th anniversary

Celebrating moon landing’s 50th anniversary

FOX+ presents a collection of films, documentaries, and TV series celebrating the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.

Arguably one of the most recognized and celebrated events of our era, the first moon landing was more than just an achievement for one country, but rather a milestone for the entire human race.

There is no shortage of love and celebration for this event. Hundreds of thousands of people around the world can echo back Neil Armstrong’s famous words, the Apollo 11 will forever be revered, and Buzz Aldrin even inspired the spaceman Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story.

Undeniably one of the most notable moments of recent history, it has paved the way for several more crewed and uncrewed moon landings since and has exponentially advanced mankind’s knowledge about the known universe.

For the 50th anniversary of that first historic trip, FOX+ has put together a collection of titles that will be perfect to watch in celebration. Here’s a list of our five favorites:

1. The Armstrong Tapes

For those who love to geek about Apollo 11’s moon landing, then don’t miss The Armstrong Tapes. Featuring the never-before-heard tapes of Neil Armstrong himself that was recorded during the final years of his life, The Armstrong Tapes shows you the life of the man on the moon: Neil Armstrong

National Geographic takes viewers into the mind of this seemingly private man illustrated through archival footage, audio clips, and personal photos that remained unseen until now.

What better way to start the 50th-anniversary celebration than this opportunity to really get to know Armstrong himself.

2. Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey

Learning about the intricate matters of our universe and reality can be extremely overwhelming, but Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey turns it into an incredible journey that anyone can take.

A follow-up to the beloved show hosted by Carl Sagan in the 1980s, this extraordinary documentary television miniseries is now presented by astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson. It has 13 episodes, each with a specific topic relating to space and time. These include the Big Bang, black holes and stars, and how the Earth was formed.

The show has earned critical praise and has won several awards, including the Critic’s Choice Television Award for Best Reality Series, four Emmys, and the 2014 Peabody Award in the Education category.

3. Space Dogs: Adventure To The Moon

For those with young children who probably don’t know what the moon landing is all about, this is a perfect movie to introduce them to the wonders of space.

When Pushok stows away in a US rocket to the moon, he only had one thing on his mind: to search for his missing astronaut father. Pushok finds out that he’s not alone on the desolate space rock when he gets reunited with his mother, encounters a baby alien, and becomes friends with a macho monkey.

According to the trailer, it’s a “barking mad adventure that is out of this world!”

4. Apollo: Missions To The Moon

People often think that Neil Armstrong’s crew were the first people sent to do research on the moon. What they don’t know is that there were four other missions before them.

Apollo: Missions To The Moon is a documentary about the Apollo Program, which was NASA’s attempt to explore what used to be one of space’s biggest enigmas: the moon.

National Geographic takes audiences on a journey of Apollo and its formation. From the first unmanned attempt during Apollo 7, the first men on the moon on Apollo 11, and even the controversial Apollo 13 mission. Apollo: Missions To The Moon is one of the quintessential documentaries to watch in order to understand the work that led up to, and was caused by, the historic moon landing.
