Over 15,000 individuals trooped to the Marikina Sports Complex on April 28 for the 4th UNTV Rescue Summit, which showcased rescue and disaster preparedness seminars, as well as equipment and gears from different rescue units both in national and local government.

Rescue groups that participated in the summit showed off their skills in the rescue competition topped by Camarines Sur’s Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office after it took home the championship.
CamSur’s Search and Rescue and Fire Rescue unit head, John Manaog, attributed team effort and coordination to their win. According to Manaog, their team remained determined no matter what obstacles they faced. The team received a cash prize of P2,000,000.
“Team effort and coordination was our key in winning. We have one command and we had good communication and distribution of task,” he said.
The former rescue champion, Nueva Vizcaya PDRRMO took home the second prize of P1,500,000. In third place, Balanga City, Bataan DRRMO received P1,000,000. Laguna PDRRMO took home P500,000 for landing on the 4th spot.
In 5th and 6th place were Ilocos Sur PDRRMO and Cagayan PDRRMO who received P100,000 each. San Pedro City DRRMO, Place Palawan PDRRMO, and Bulacan PDRRMO took the 7th, 8th, and 9th place, respectively, and received P50,000 each. Meanwhile, over 2,000 attended the rescue and disaster preparedness seminar.
The free seminar aims to raise awareness about the “The Big One” or the potential massive earthquake that would result in the movement of the West Valley Fault.
Public Service Advocate and BMPI-UNTV President-CEO Kuya Daniel Razon highlighted the importance of helping others and commended the volunteers for risking their lives to save others.
“What’s most important is to always have a desire in our hearts to help others despite the risks. And I would like to commend everybody. The willingness to risk your lives to save others cannot be repaid by any amount of money,” he said.
The whole-day event was capped with the concert organized by Wish 107.5 with OPM’s hitmakers and up and coming artists like Sponge Cola, Shamrock, Grace Note, Plethora, Bradz, Wishfuls, Rhea Basco, Mark Michael Garcia, and Le Chazz.
