GMA still the most child-friendly TV station

For continuing its mission to inspire the youth through child-friendly programs, leading broadcast company GMA Network once again brought home the most number of honors from the prestigious Anak TV Awards, getting a total of 50 awards for its various shows and personalities during the ceremonies held last December 7.

Earning the coveted Anak TV Seals anew are GMA-7’s primetime newscasts 24 Oras and 24 Oras Weekend; multi-awarded magazine show Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho; longest-running morning show Unang Hirit; and pioneering public service program Wish Ko Lang. Top-rating infotainment show AHA!; wellness program Pinoy MD; travel and wildlife show Born To Be Wild; public affairs program Tunay na Buhay; and weekly infotainment show I-Bilib were also conferred an Anak TV Seal each.

Joining the roster of Anak TV Seal awardees for this year are hit family sitcom Pepito Manaloto; drama anthology Stories for the Soul; top-rating weekly fantasy anthology show Daig Kayo Ng Lola Ko; musical game show All Star Videoke; cooking talk show Sarap Diva; romantic comedy series Ang Forever Ko’y Ikaw; and well-loved primetime series Sherlock Jr.

Eleven GMA News TV programs received the Anak TV Seal as well, namely Ang Pinaka, Biyahe Ni Drew, Brigada, Day Off, Good News, Idol Sa Kusina, iJuander, Investigative Documentaries, News To Go, Poptalk, and Wagas.

Meanwhile, the Kapuso Network’s regional arm GMA Regional TV (GMA RTV) took home its biggest winning haul in recent years. Local newscasts Balitang Amianan in North and Central Luzon; Balitang Bisdak in Central and Eastern Visayas; and One Mindanao in North, Central, and Southern Mindanao; as well as its festival specials ‘Kapuso sa Panagbenga: The Balitang Amianan Special Live Coverage’ and ‘Pit Senyor: The Balitang Bisdak Special Live Coverage’ all received the iconic Anak TV Seal.  Byaheng Do30, which airs on GMA RTV stations in Mindanao, received an award for the first time. These programs were affirmed as “child-friendly” by adult jurors from various sectors nationwide after a thorough assessment screening.

Multi-awarded broadcast journalist Kara David was conferred the ‘Female Makabata Star’ award.

Hailed by the jury as Male Makabata Stars for this year were Primetime King Dingdong Dantes; Pambansang Bae Alden Richards; broadcast journalist Atom Araullo; award-winning public affairs host Drew Arellano; and comedy genius Michael V.

The Female Makabata Stars, on the other hand, were Primetime Queen Marian Rivera-Dantes; Phenomenal Star Maine Mendoza; award-winning Kapuso actress Barbie Forteza; versatile Kapuso actress Bianca Umali; multi-awarded broadcast journalist Kara David; and veteran TV and movie actress Ms. Gloria Romero. These personalities were deemed by the national jury as the “most admired, child-sensitive TV personalities” worth emulating by the youth.

Various Kapuso entertainment and news and public affairs programs were also given the Household Favorite awards, including Pepito Manaloto, Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, 24 Oras, Biyahe ni Drew, and longest-running noontime variety program Eat Bulaga.

Anak TV is an iconic seal on Philippine television bestowed by parents, teachers, NGOs and other sectors of society on television programs they regard as wholesome and child-safe.
