From the creative team that gave you Kita Kita, the highest-grossing local movie of 2017, comes another thought-provoking story about the interesting journey of two people who are in a romantic relationship for a long time.
Entitled Through Night and Day, the film stars Paolo Contis and Alessandra de Rossi. They have been friends for a long time and have worked in various TV shows and projects but this is the first time that they are teaming up for a titular role on the big screen. Their natural chemistry is incredible, they have fun and tease each other constantly while making the film.
Now a producer, Alessandra is known for her quirky, off beat roles. From Kita Kita to 12, Alessandra proves to be an acting force with any story or any acting partner.
“She’s fun to be with. And it helps that we’ve known each other for a very long time so we didn’t have to make any adjustments. We only teased each other while we’re on the set,” Paolo told Manila Standard in an interview.
In the movie, Paolo and Alessandra play Ben and Jen. Before getting married, the two embark on a trip of a lifetime to Jen’s lifelong dream destination—Iceland.
Their relationship is put to the test as all sorts of misfortunes happen to them on this trip, mostly caused by Jen’s blunders. What they hope to be a trip that would make their relationship stronger ends up tearing them apart.
“They’ve been in a relationship for a long time, but because of their busy schedule, they didn’t really have that alone moment. It was their first time to be together from morning till evening. So, while on vacation, instead of enjoying each other’s company and enjoying the trip the way they envisioned it, the trip gradually turned into a nightmare that brought out their worst sides,” says Paolo of the premise of the film.
The comedian, who takes the lead for the first time is elated to be part of the project. He didn’t mind whether or not he was the first choice to play the character.
“It doesn’t really matter. The only important thing is I’m the final person to really play the character,” he said.
This is the first movie he has done after a long time. Mainly known for comedy and drama, this is also the first time Paolo plays a leading man in a love story.
Through Night and Day is the first Filipino film shot in Iceland which is Alessandra’s dream destination. She feels like it is her second home because she identifies so much with her idol Bjork—Iceland’s very own international pop star.
