Pambansang Bae Alden Richards is featured in a new TV commercial, and as expected, everybody in AlDub Nation is “loving it.”
In the new black-and- white TVC for McDonald’s Alden portrays the amiable prince Prinsipe Cariñoso. The hero is seen riding a horse en route to an enchanted spring to fetch some water for the king. Clad in boots and a cape, he channels the iconic Filipino fantasy prinsipe of classic Pinoy films as his character traveled through mountainous terrain. Suddenly a hungry and temperamental giant giant blocks his way saying that nobody can go to the enchanted place because it’s forbidden.
Tension rise when the prince insisted that he needs to complete the task. Then the situation turns in his favor when the prince offers the latest product of the fast food chain.
The TVC is an ode to the early days of Pinoy storytelling that kept generations of Filipinos glued to their screens, as it was shot in black and white and completed with grainy effect and dramatic scoring. Inspired by Filipino epics like Ibong Adarna, with a comedic and charismatic exchange between Alden’s charcter and the temperamental giant, the commercial stood out and made an impression on viewers. Since its release on Wednesday, it has been viewed more than 1 million views.The hashtag #MeronNaNgayon that accompanied the TVC release on Facebook and YouTube trended on Twitter as well peaking at third spot on the same day of its release.
