The perks of being Luis Manzano

LUIS Manzano is undoubtedly one of the most successful young artists of his generation. With a consistently thriving career as an actor and TV host, Luis has been blessed with countless perks that inevitably go hand-in-hand with his awe-inspiring success.

As a host on television, Luis has been on a steady rise from being one of the hip and pioneering VJs of Myx to becoming a highly trusted and well-loved host of some of ABS-CBN’s top rating shows such as ASAP, Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Plus, Pilipinas Got Talent, Kapamilya Deal Or No Deal, Minute To Win It, and The Voice Of The Philippines among many others.

Luis’ rise in the industry may seem to most people as a walk in the park for him, but he says otherwise. “It wasn’t easy at all,” says Luis. “Hosting is one of my passions, but it doesn’t mean that everything was handed to me on a silver platter. I had to undergo a lot of training, read a lot, keep myself abreast with current issues and events, and of course learn from my mistakes and make sure that I never commit them again. I needed to earn the trust of the viewers and it’s not something that is earned overnight.”

As an actor, Luis gradually gained momentum when he appeared in Kampanerang Kuba and several episodes of Maalaala Mo Kaya. In 2009, Luis landed one of the most important roles as an actor as a young gay migrant in New York in Star Cinema’s In My Life, the 12th highest grossing Filipino film of all time. In this movie, Luis was pitted  John Lloyd Cruz and more importantly his mother, Vilma Santos. Luis got favorable notices not just from the audience but hard-to-please critics as well. “I was under pressure and at the same time very inspired when we were filming In My Life,” recalls Luis. “The pressure was borne out of the fact that I was acting alongside not only John Lloyd who is such an awesome actor, but I also my mom who is, of course, The Vilma Santos. I was up on my toes all the time. I had to rigorously study my character and the script. But I was also inspired to work harder because I was given the rare chance to work with such great actors. As an added perk, I was able to work with director Olive Lamasan who is such an amazing director. She really took care of me and taught me a lot of things that helped me in so many ways.”

Today, some 12 years after he captured the hearts of the entire nation with his infectious laughter and impeccable wit, Luis’s success is maintained. He is in the Moron 5 And The Crying Lady under the direction of Wenn V. Deramas and second season of The Voice Of The Philippines.

Luis also recently accomplished another achievement as he joined the growing family of Puregold Priceclub Inc. as its newest celebrity endorser. “It’s an honor for me to be part of Puregold’s growing family,” says Luis. “I am very excited in the months to come with the many surprises Puregold has in store for all of us. This is truly one of the high points of my career.”

With all his many accomplishments, the greatest perk that is dearest to Luis is his ability as an artist to effect positive change in the lives of other people. “I have been inspired by my parents, my family, and my colleagues in the business. My fans have also inspired me immensely. For me, it’s a blessing to earn the trust of a lot of people. To be able to inspire other people in return is such a privilege that is as precious as gold to me. Nothing beats the pure, natural high of working hard and earning the right points in life to get the precious, golden perks we all truly deserve.”
