BEGINNING this Saturday, television programming makes a dramatic switch back when musical shows were a network’s top attraction. Those were the days when Vilma Santos was the queen of the dance floor in the many incarnations of her show from VIP (Vilma in Person) in the now defunct Banahaw Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Channel 2 in the 1980s to Vilma on GMA Network from 1986 to 1995. Those times, several other stars tried to wear dancing shoes like Maricel Soriano (Maricel Live! in 1986 on IBC 13 and Maria! Maria! in 1987 on PTV) and Alma Moreno who starred three variety shows titled The Other Side of Alma, Rated A, and Loveli-ness. These three stars, because of the variety shows they hosted earned for them titles bestowed upon them by the movie press like Star for All Seasons (Vilma Santos, as if there are four seasons in the Philippines), Diamond Star (Maricel Soriano, because Sharon Cuneta was already known as the Mega Star) and Shining Star (Alma Moreno, as if there are stars that don’t shine).
Now, make way for Kapuso Network’s Primetime Queen Marian Rivera as she unleashes the glamorous and fun side of her in the newest Saturday primetime musical, Marian.
She has captivated the people here and abroad as an actor, charmed her fans with her striking beauty and presence, and inspired them with her advocacies. And yet, there’s no stopping Marian Rivera as she grooves to the beat of being the most beautiful Dance Diva in her self-titled show.
The masses love her down-to-earth personality and, in the show, spectators get the chance to celebrate with Marian’s performances, particularly her dancing skills. Marian heats up the stage with her contagious energetic vibe, as she will absolutely be a feast for the eyes with her show-stopping costumes, make-up and hairstyles.
“Sobrang excited ako dahil isa ‘to sa mga pangarap kong gawin. Ibang side naman ni Marian Rivera ang makikita ng mga manonood at siyempre kaabang-abang din ang mga makakasama namin sa show, mula sa mga magagaling na choreographers, dance crews, hanggang sa mga celebrity artists,” says Marian.
Aside from Marian’s special production numbers every week, viewers will also witness the high-powered, face-to-face battle of dance crews together with celebrity dancers. Meanwhile, see more of today’s generation’s icon Marian Rivera as she reveals her playful side as Yan-Yan in the segment Playlist when she grooves to the top three dance hits of different genres every week.
Sharing the stage with Marian is one of Eat Bulaga hosts Paolo Ballesteros. Known for his animated charm, Paolo engages himself in an insightful banter with Marian and the show’s guests. Adding musical beat to the show is Kapuso Pop Superstar Julie Anne San Jose.
Captivating, grand and ever-surprising, every Kapuso will see Marian Rivera like never before as she pushes herself to the limits together with Paolo and Julie Anne. Marian is directed by Louie Ignacio with head writer Rommel Gacho.
This Saturday, watch Marian in a dance showdown with the Star for All Season and Diamond Star.
“Sana na nga pwede si Loveli-Ness. Dream come true talaga yon. But she can be a guest in the show anytime, when she’s feeling better,” says Marian.
So, if you think the dance shows on TV is a thing for the Jurassic era, think again, as Marian Rivera brings the glitz and glamor back on your TV screens every Saturday.
Let’s make Saturday nights, Marian Nights as Marian premieres after Vampire Ang Daddy Ko on GMA.
