Over lunch at Quezon City’s newest hotel, Emmanuel “Noel” C. Lorenzana, TV5 president and Chief Executive Officer, and the network’s chief Entertainment Content Officer, Wilma V. Galvante, announced the new shows that will start airing this weekend on TV5.
Lorenzana comes to TV5 with a wealth of experience. Immediately prior to assuming the post of the President and CEO of MediaQuest, the holding company that owns media assets such as TV5 and Cignal TV, among others, he was previously the Executive Vice President and Head of the Wireless Consumer Business at Smart. Previous to joining the PLDT group, Noel came home to the Philippines to be the President of NutriAsia—the leading condiments company in the Philippines. Noel spent many years with Unilever in various capacities, Chairman and Managing Director of Unilever Malaysia and Singapore, Managing Director of Home and Personal Care Business for Unilever Philippines, Vice President for the Oral Care Category for Asia and Africa, and Marketing Director for Unilever Shanghai Company, in Shanghai, China.
We all know where Galvante is coming from. She is now charge of TV5 Entertainment Business Unit. She has been with TV5 since last year as a consultant for television and actively participated in the conceptualization and production of Artista Academy, the show that discovered the network’s pool of talents that includes Vin Abrenica, Sophie Albert, Chanel Morales, Mark Neumann, Shaira Mae dela Cruz and Akihiro Blanco were discovered.
The two sat down with members of the entertainment press, underscoring that the launch or re-launch for some shows marks the signal for a more aggressive TV5.
First among the shows to return on the network’s screens is Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.
Telecast on Sunday nights, it is still hosted by Vic Sotto, and is tagged the “Bossing Of All Game Shows.”
Now on its 10th season, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire has more exciting twists and new lifelines that will help contestants become millionaires.
It premieres on Sept. 15.
A new showbiz-oriented show premieres on Saturday afternoon. It is called Showbiz Police has Raymond Gutierrez, movie/TV writer/director Joey Reyes, Congresswoman Lucy Torres-Gomez and hard-core showbiz personality Cristy Fermin as hosts.

Wow Mali is back. Over a million hits on YouTube, the longest-running Pinoy prank show proves that when it comes to pranks—nothing can beat the original.
Due to insistent public demand, TV5 brings back the prank show. Joey de Leon is back with crazier antics and wackier pranks as host of Wow Mali Pa Rin! From its well-loved prank segments to its new devious ploys, Galvante says it will sure tickle the funny bones of the whole family.

The original gagsters from Tropang Trumpo, Ogie Alcasid and Gelli De Belen, return to the home of gag shows and they are joined by Edgar Allan Guzman, Empoy, Alwyn Uytingco, Eula Caballero, Ritz Azul, Jasmine Curtis-Smith and the top scholars from Artista Academy.
Tropa Mo Ko Unli aims to be the newest, coolest barkada that will spice up Saturday evenings with their wacky antics.

At last Sharon Cuneta is back on primetime. She is one of the stars of the network’s new musical show called The Mega and The Songwriter. The other one is the newly minted Kapatid, Ogie Alcasid.
Galvante says the show is the first of its kind on Philippine television, a musical variety program that features not only the two stars but also popular performers who will be singing their songs. It also features aspiring performers discovered on YouTube.
TV5 brings hit US game show Killer Karaoke to Philippine primetime.
The US game show is crazy, but it seems it has its own audience. So, TV5 is bringing the show to the Philippines. The network will show one season of the game show from the US, and follow it up later with a localized version.
I am not sure if the local version get crazier than the original.
The US version starts airing on Sept. 14.
What’s Up Doods? That’s Edu Manzano’s new show on the Kapatid network. Will go through different comedic sketches and take challenges from social media users. Apart from his crazy acts, Edu will have celebrities and personalities as guests. If you like Edu in his previous talks shows on another channel, the two TV5 executives chime that this show rock Saturdays like never before.
It premieres on Sept. 14.
Now, we asked Lorenzana and Galvante why were they focusing on the weekend programming.
Their answer, “In this industry where competition is tight, we have to know the strengths and weaknesses of our rivals. We also have a tactical strategy not to launch shows hurriedly. We take things one step a time, and if we succeed, then that would be the time to celebrate.”
