New child wonder stars in ‘Binoy Henyo’

Television discovers new talents at the rate of 10 a day, and at least two of them have the potential becoming big stars. Child talents are no exceptions. Though they grow up as days go by, those with exceptional talents will flourish until they become fully grown adults.

In recent days, the Kapuso network has discovered a number of child talents and featured them in shows, but none can compare to this kid called David Remo who is now the star of a primetime series. In fact, he is playing the title role. Binoy Henyo, not to be mistaken with the segment in Eat Bulaga that sounds similarly to the title (“Pinoy Henyo”), piloted on Monday, July 22 and posted a significant rating of 14 percent, beating Annaliza on ABS-CBN by one rating point (11.4 percent) in Mega Manila. The series revolves around a boy, considered in his community as a “henyo” (genius) and his mother Agnes (Sheena Halili). It chronicles the mother and child travails to cope with life along with Chato (Nova Villa), Agnes’ aunt. This series also marks Halili’s easing up to the leading lady role. It’s her first time to be featured as the lead character and the excitement was visible in her face at the press conference to introduce the show to the media. “I am very grateful to GMA Network for entrusting me this role. I promise I’d do the best I can to make we worthy of this trust,” she said. Remo, the kid, was as bubbly as the character he is plying in the series. The six-year-old boy debuts in a TV series, although he isn’t really new in the business having appeared in numerous commercials prior to the show. He is currently in Grade 1 at La Salle Greenhills. So, how can the boy divide his time between school and TV work? The network has made sure the boy doesn’t skip his classes due to the taping schedules. So, if this child brings in the ratings the network needs to conquer audiences nationwide, Remo’s advice “kalma ka lang” (Keep calm) might jus be the buzz word on TV in the next couple of months. As I have mentioned earlier, GMA Network’s latest family drama Binoy Henyo is off to a promising start after posting high numbers during its debut last Monday (July 22). According to data from Nielsen TV Audience Measurement, it dominated its timeslot not only in viewer-rich Mega Manila but also in Urban Luzon. Urban Luzon and Mega Manila represent 76 and 59 percent of the total urban TV household population in the entire country, respectively. Based on July 22 overnight data, the program posted higher ratings than its ABS-CBN’s counterpart with an average household rating of 14 percent versus Annaliza’s 13 percent. Meanwhile, in Mega Manila, Binoy Henyo registered 14 percent against Annaliza’s 11.4 percent.
