Young actress Jane Oineza finally breaks her silence regarding the alleged relationship that she and Jerome Ponce had in the past. She cleared the cobwebs and explained why people thought they were an item.
At the press launch of Finding You, a film the two are top-billing, the 22-year-old actress said that she’s happy that she’s given another opportunity to work with Jerome. They last worked together in the 2015 series Nasaan Ka Nang Kailangan Kita (NKNKK).
“We did not date, to begin with,” she clarified.
However, she revealed that she and Jerome developed a special bond that is more than friends “but less than lovers.”
“The relationship just didn’t develop into something else. It didn’t bloom. It’s like we were getting there, there’s a potential for us to get there but it just didn’t happen,” she vaguely explained.
She couldn’t further describe the kind of friendship that they have so she just enumerated the good qualities she likes about her leading man.
“He is so sweet as a person. I just couldn’t remember if he expressed any sweet gestures to me in the past but he’s sweet, kind and thoughtful,” Jane shared.
“I also like his humor. Yun yung mahalaga sa ‘kin. Yung comfortable ako at ikaw. Ganon lang, walang pretensions,” she added.
Though their connection did not lead to a romantic relationship, Jane said that she and Jerome would bump into each other every now and then, since they are both artists of Star Magic.
“Our friendship is always there, we have constant communication. Hindi naman parang after NKNKKhindi na kami nag-usap at all,” she said.
Meanwhile, Jane is happy to be given substantial roles in movies especially in the Regal Entertainment project she’s starring in opposite Jerome.
“I always try to give my best in any role I portray. I think that’s what they see in me, my being dedicated to my craft that’s why they always entrust me with good roles. And I couldn’t be any less thankful.”
Jerome, on the other hand, was more elusive when asked about the past that he and Jane had. When asked about the issue, the actor was reluctant to answer.
“Wala naman yata kaming ... We’re friends, yung lang,” was his succinct response.
Nevertheless, Jerome confirmed that he and Jane never lost their friendship.
“We remained friends even after our last project together. Whenever we bump into each other, we would catch up and talk for a while, tapos nagkakayayaan lumabas with other friends.”
What is definite though is that the actor got excited upon knowing that he would work again with Jane in an acting project.
“I felt really excited when the role was offered. I felt pressured as well because the last time we worked, siya ang nagdala lahat ng eksena don sa teleserye namin.”
Meantime, Jerome does not mind being tagged as an underrated actor. He is just thankful that he gets numerous showbiz offers that make him busy.
“I can just be thankful and if there’s another project for me, I would really be glad. I’m content with what I have ever since,” he ended.
Directed by Easy Ferrer, Finding You also stars Barbie Imperial. The film opens in cinemas on May 29.
