How Bea and Angelica rekindled their friendship

TV and movie stars Bea Alonzo and Angelica Panganiban admit that their friendship was put to test at one point in time. In fact, during that period, they stopped talking to each other.

Bea Alonzo (right) shares on Instagram an old photo of her and Angelica Panganiban taken in 2007.

“There were ill feelings between us before. We had a misunderstanding. But I guess, it’s normal in any friendship, right? Actually, when we were shooting our currently film, Bey (her term of endearment to Bea) and I reminisced our gap in the past. We’ve talked of some things and I realized that we’re really friends and that our friendship just had to undergo tests, conflicts and challenges in the process,” Angelica says.

“Fortunately, Angelica and I had the chance to face and settle things during the shooting of Unbreakable. Perhaps, after your judgment towards each other has ended and your hidden ill feelings as well, true friendship starts. That’s where true happiness opens up and the positive hope you have for each other. It appears that time has arranged it perfectly,” Bea butts in.

On her social media, Angelica shares a photo of her and Bea with caption,'Ganda ng Mami ko!

Interestingly, if there’s one thing that the two popular actresses share closely these days is their being able to move on and bounce back from their previous heartbreaks. The public knows about Angelica’s aborted reconciliation with former boyfriend Carlo Aquinoand Bea’s much-talked about falling out with former steady Gerald Anderson.

“Honestly, it’s a big thing that both of us had to go through painful chapters in our respective love life. We were able to relate with each other. That way, we got more bonded. You help each other heal your wounds and move on. You pull each other up,” Bea avers.

“I agree!” seconds Angelica. “It’s like sharing notes on our similar situations. Now, I can say that my friendship with Bea is much, much deeper. Unlike when we were younger when what we usually do was to take pictures when there’s a nice background or talk about non-sense things. It was like a day-off from work. Now, it’s much deeper and serious.

“Come to think of it, perhaps fate brought us together because we can help each other. We draw strength from each other. What’s good about us is that we don’t experience the lows at the same time. When I’m down, she’s the opposite and vice-versa. Yes, we pull each other up.

“When one is groping in the dark, the other will guide her to see the light. That’s how our friendship is right now. We are guarding each other’s back. Our friendship is really strong and deep.”

Angelica reveals that Bea is one of her closest friends in and out of show business right now.

“Of course, she’s in the list! In fact, I will already put her photo in the wall of my house. I display pictures of my closest friends in my abode. From there you can see how I value my friendship with her.”

On her part, Bea reveals they have plans of traveling together.

“Yes! We’ve already made lots of plans, only we don’t have the time yet. I hope that they will push through in the near future. That will be exciting!”

As they worked together in the currently showing horror presentation The Heiress, which also stars Maricel Soriano, McCoy de Leon and Janella Salvador, realized how they’ve grown in their craft as actors since the first time they shared the frame in the hit daytime series Be Careful with My Heart a few years ago.

“I couldn’t help but feel nostalgic about my entry into the ‘biz through that soap opera. As everybody knows, Janella played one ofRichard Yap’s children there. It was my maiden screen exposure. I was still an extra then, a talent.

“Fortunately, the director took notice of me. He gave me a role. That was the start of my acting career. I was initially cast as a school bully until later I became the third wheel to the love team of Janella and Marlo Mortel in the story. For the record, Janella is my first on screen partner. I also remember doing one episode with her in Maalaala Mo Kaya.

“Now that we were paired in The Heiress, I felt that we returned to our younger days. Imagine, how time flies! And it took four years before we were given the opportunity to work together for a project again. It’s simply nice,” says McCoy.

The two Kapamilya stars have only good words for each other while filming their latest big screen starrer.

“We have a smooth-sailing working relationship on the set. We’ve also discovered new things about each other. Like, I didn’t know that Janella is a voracious eater. That’s one of our favorite bonding moments—eating. We’re very much alike when it comes to that. Janella is usually hungry when break time comes,” McCoy says in jest.

“But seriously though, she’s hasn’t changed. As ever, she remains serious to her craft. She always gives it her hundred per cent. Just like here in ‘The Heiress’, she really studied all the nuances of her character as a provincial lass. She’s very hard working and that’s what I admire so much in her,’ he adds.

Meanwhile, Janella speaks positively on McCoy’s growth as an actor.

“His transformation is just amazing,” she states. “In ‘Be Careful with My Heart’, I’ve witnessed how uncomfortable he was in front of the cameras. He couldn’t deliver his lines well because of shyness. But now, he’s more comfortable in facing the cameras. Obviously, he has gained confidence.”

Interestingly, the two young stars are products of disbanded love teams. As everyone knows, Janella was paired then with Elmo Magalona while McCoy had Elisse Joson for his maiden love team. For Janella, it’s just okay with her if McCoy is her latest leading man.

“I have no issues with love teams because it really helps in establishing new and young stars. But since I came from a love team before, I don’t want to be exclusively tied with it all over again. You get limited to just one screen partner. Personally, I want to work with other actors to grow as an artist. That way, you can do many things in terms of your craft, right?”

McCoy has the same line of thinking.

“If you get to work with different stars, you widen your horizon. It’s for your own good. It’s beneficial to your career. For one, you can explore,” he ends.
