Actress Angel Locsin revealed that a few years ago she thought of quitting showbiz to live an ordinary life. In fact, she submitted a letter to the bosses of ABS-CBN to express her resignation as a television and movie artist.

‘The General’s Daughter’ is no quitter
In production as early as April 2018, “The General’s Daughter” unravels a story spanning two generations and three families, with Angel Locsin’s character, Rhian, as the central figure.

Angel explained that she felt like she did not satisfy her network and that she was a big disappointment to it. She even shared about the feeling of not fulfilling her obligations and responsibilities as a celebrity of ABS-CBN.

“I felt I didn’t deserve to be a contract artist because I couldn’t do my job. I was a big disappointment. With my body, the physical challenge, I couldn’t do my responsibility,” Angel told showbiz writers during a press conference held at ABS-CBN’s Restaurant 9501 last Thursday.

“Nahihiya ako kasi I’m paid. I thought it was the proper way to deal with it. But one of the ABS-CBN bosses talked to me. These are the people that I’m going to miss that’s why I need to treasure them. So after that conversation, naisip ko, gaganahana ka talaga magtrabaho,” she continued.

The 33-year-old actress’ spine was damaged in 2015 preventing her to reprise her role in the film adaptation of the iconic Darna, which she trained for five years just to execute the stunts required in the film. In the same year, ABS-CBN and Star Cinema made a statement that Angel would no longer be doing the role as they decided to prioritize the actress’s health.

Now back as a wiser and a stronger person, Angel opens 2019 with ABS-CBN’s first new offering, where she plays Rhian Bonifacio, a daughter of a military general who is raised and honed to take down their family’s biggest enemy.

“I want to show people that I can still do it. Here, you will see me do stunts again—kicking and punching people. I studied military drills and spent a few days in a hospital to prepare for the role,” she said.

With the story revolving around the lives of military families, people can expect a braver and fiercer Angel as she does stunts and fight scenes that will once again prove her mettle as the country’s premier action-drama actress. The series also features an ensemble of seasoned actors such as Maricel Soriano, Tirso Cruz III, and Albert Martinez, among others.

Before her much-awaited return to primetime, Angel appeared in several Kapamilya shows. She was part of the hit fantasy series La Luna Sangre and appeared in one of the much-talked-about episodes of MMK, where she played a Muslim woman who fought for justice after being mistakenly accused as a kidnapper.

She also sat as one of the judges in the latest two seasons of Pilipinas Got Talent with Vice Ganda, Robin Padilla, and former ABS-CBN executive Freddie M. Garcia as they judged some of the biggest and most impressive talents in the country.

Angel also brought her star power to the big screen as she starred in the movie Everything About Her with Xian Lim and the Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos. Her effective portrayal in the movie earned her several recognitions from award-giving bodies, including the KBP Golden Dove Awards, Asia Pacific Film Festival, and Gawad Tanglaw.
