Miss Landscapes International 2018 winner  Karen Grace Atienza

Karen Grace Atienza added another world title to the Philippines after she bested more than 40 candidates from all over the world during the finals of the inaugural Miss Landscape International 2018 held Saturday night in Guangzhou, China. Atienza won a crown valued at $ 2.5 million by the Chuangying Group and a $10, 000 cash prize.

Miss Peru Samantha Batallanos was named 1st runner-up, while Miss Ecuador Cassia Pouleth Hurtado Vásconez and Miss Thailand Sanitpim Sirichatpaphaku finished as 2nd and 3rd runners-up, respectively.

Atienza, a high school teacher who hails from Rodriguez, Rizal, took the title of Miss Jewel of the Philippines Sapphire Queen and Miss Tourism World Philippines during the 2017 Miss Jewel of the Philippines pageant founded by John de la Vega. She previously competed at the 2016 Miss Tourism Philippines where she finished as 2nd runner-up.

“Mabuhay, Pilipinas!” greeted Atienza after her victory taking to Instagram to thank her mentors, friends, and supporters and dedicating her win to her countrymen. She expressed her gratitude to De La Vega, Philippine franchise holder of the Miss Landscape International pageant, Benji Leguiab IV for her gown and Andrei David, Antonio Antonio and Maria Sugar Paguio for her dresses in the competition.

Atienza has the distinction of breaking the long 9-year-losing streak of Filipinas who competed in China-hosted pageants.  She is the second Miss Jewel of the Philippines title holder to win abroad after Jeslyn Santos’ win at the 2016 Miss United Continents in Ecuador. She also followed up on Sophia Senoron’s crowning in India as the first Miss Multinational 2018.
