Destined To Be Yours

Did the AlDub series shatter ratings figures? No, it did not but the light romance, which premiered on Monday, was able to defeat its rival program My Dear Heart, aired on ABS-CBN. Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza’s first primetime TV series got an AGB TV rating of 22.5 percent or 2.9 points higher than its rival. And as expected, people were still discussing the premiere telecast on social media even after the episode ended. Sure, it got a very warm reception. We just hope that the series will be able to sustain it.

Toni Gonzaga

Celebrities who go ballistic over an Internet troll’s below-the-belt comment is already commonplace. Hence, when the actress-host responded to one of her followers, we just couldn’t help but admire her gesture. Toni got trolled due to her weight loss, instead of fighting back, the mother-of-one just responded with one liners. Yes, she talked less and didn’t give the troll any hint that she’s affected by her comments. That’s the way to do it, really.

Someone To Watch Over Me

Tom Rodriguez and Lovi Poe’s hard work in this advocacy drama seems to be paying off. The Kapuso program is the lone Asian drama nominated in the Telenovela category in the prestigious New York Festivals International Television & Film Awards. The stars couldn’t contain their excitement learning that the TV drama was nominated, for them the show being shortlisted is more than enough reason for them to feel proud. Of course, it’s an international award giving body, and the members of the jury cannot be bought.

Jim Paredes

Should he apologize for his behavior during the EDSA rally last week when he tried to manipulate and tell off some members of the Duterte Youth? People say yes but the senior citizen singer already made it clear that he would never do it. Paredes has been very vocal in his opposition to the current admiration and presented himself as someone who knows everything. Apparently, what people saw during the rally was a closed-minded old man who has mastered the art of talking but failed to learn how to listen.

FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano

Coco Martin, the series’ main star, promises his fans that more guests will join the primetime series in the coming weeks. That means more subplots and more conflict will be presented. But we don’t think it’s a good thing. Ang Probinsyano has been running now for more than a year, and it’s obviously reaching its breaking point. The show might have been better off as a six-month series. Even loyal viewers are now getting confused of its already convoluted plot.

Paulo Avelino

Those who have seen I’m Drunk, I Love You, the indie film he stars in, agree that it is very promising, well-acted and pleasantly directed. But no movie house is willing to show the romantic indie film anymore. This disappoints Paulo pointing out that it’s unfair. He called out the attention of movie houses that support art films but declined to extend IDILY’s theatrical run and just let Hollywood releases rule the cinemas. We think Paulo doesn’t understand that his project is an indie film and there’s a proper venue for that. If it’s not yet clear to him then someone must immediately tell him now.
