Lovi in Tarog’s ‘Sana Dati’

Lovi Poe returns to the indie scene via Jerrold Tarog’s Sana Dati, an official entry to the forthcoming Cinemalaya Film Festival from July 26 to Aug. 4. “I’m really happy to be back in Cinemalaya!” she avers. “I have sweet and unforgettable memories with them. In 2010, I had an entry titled Mayohan for which I won Best Actress in the New Breed category.  So, this one is special to me.” According to the dusky star, her role in her latest Cinemalaya entry is as challenging as the previous one. “Oh yes! She’s a complicated character: a girl who’s stuck in the past and just can’t move on. I have three leading men here namely, Paulo Avelino, Benjamin Alves and TJ Trinidad who are all competent performers. It’s another opportunity for me to explore and widen my range as an actress. I’m really proud that this role fell on my lap!” This early, some quarters are already pitting her against Vilma Santos. The Star for all Seasons is also in an entry: the much anticipated Ekstra under the helm Jeffrey Jeturian. The films are in the Directors Showcase category, so expectedly they’ll be the forerunners in the Best Actress race. “Really, there are talks like that? Well, to be honest, I don’t even think about it. I’m grateful that I was offered the project and it’s for Cinemalaya so I gave it my best shot. Never did I put myself under pressure when it comes to awards. “In fact, in Mayohan’s case, I wasn’t expecting to bag home the Best Actress trophy so it really came as a surprise when my name was called as the winner. The same applies here in Sana Dati. I don’t have grand expectations whatsoever. I’m more concerned with the viewers’ reception. I just hope they’ll like my performance,” says Lovi. * * * According to Jillian Ward, she’s happy for the success of fellow child star Ryzza Mae Dizon, whose popularity is soaring high these days. “She’s my friend! We’ve already appeared together as guests in some GMA programs and we’re okay. Ryzza is nice,” she states. Reports have it that the Eat Bulaga sensation has already bought a car and her next project is a decent house for her family. “That’s good! She’s a good daughter. I hope she realizes her dream of buying a new house for her family. It would be very fulfilling.” Having experienced before the privileges Ryzza Mae enjoys now, Jillian reminds the latter to: “Always pray! She should thank God for all the blessings so He would continuously shower her with lots!” The pretty child wonder is also open to the idea where she and Ryzza Mae will be together in one show. “That’s okay with me. Actually, I’ve been hearing comments like what if I’ll be part of Vampire ang Daddy Ko. If ever, that would be nice. But still, GMA calls the shots. I will just follow their directives.” Speaking of shows, Jillian is part of the upcoming Kapuso offering Home Sweet Home. “I’m excited because I’ll be working with Tito Raymart (Santiago), Tita Roxanne (Guinoo), Tita Rochelle (Pangilinan), Tito Arthur (Solinap), Tita Gladys (Reyes) and Celia (Rodriguez). It promises to be a whole lot of fun!” she ends.
