Sparkly Heart Evangelista

It seems like there is no stopping Heart Evangelista.

If she’s not on the small screen starring in a TV series, she’s in a gallery exhibiting her hand-painted luxury bags, or at a press launch for a product endorsement, or at home painting and fulfilling her role as wife to husband Senator Chiz Escudero.

Heart is everywhere, so to speak.

But, wherever she goes and whatever she does, Heart, or Love Marie Ongpauco-Escudero in real life, never loses her charm and elegance. Even in an all-white ensemble, she sparkles and stands out in the crowd—and a quick scan on her will reveal how she does that.

Apart from her innate beauty and impeccable style, Heart’s jewelry is her statement.

“It’s like fashion, whenever you wear it, it makes you feel good about yourself,” Heart told Manila Standard. “Even if you’re just wearing rubber shoes and plain T-shirt, when you put a nice [pair of] stud earrings, they instantly dress up your outfit.”

Her preference for authentic, sophisticated jewelry is known among her peers. In fact, she got immersed in this sparkly world at an early age.

“My mom’s a collector and my dad is also into jewelry. When I was young, my dad would buy my mom loose stones and she would design them and do the settings and everything. So I kinda grew up with that kind of love for anything sparkly,” shares Heart.

Now that she’s older, Heart is beginning to build her collection with the help of her exacting mother.

“It’s good to start early when buying jewelry pieces,” she says and adding, “Aside from being investments, they are classic, they are timeless, and they are something that you pass on—it’s a memory, it’s an heirloom.”

She admits that most of her jewelry is from her mom, one of which is the pair of heart-shaped, two-carat diamond set earrings her mom gave her when she was young. “I love that. I was wearing that on my wedding day.”

SHINE BRIGHT LIKE A DIAMOND. For the second time, jewelry brand My Diamond is tapping
actress Heart Evangelista to become its brand ambassador

The timelessness of jewelry makes Heart believe that women should invest in this luxury.

“Because it’s not just for you—it’s something that you pass on to your daughter, your daughter-in-law, or your son for his engagement or wedding,” she says.

She adds, “It’s a memory, it’s so personal and it’s like leaving a part of you behind. So for me, it’s important to have even just a few pieces.”

As for the piece she can’t leave home without, she says it’s her engagement ring. While her favorite jewelry is the 18-carat white gold, heart-shaped diamond wedding ring her husband gave her. “It’s so special since it was specifically made for me,” shares Heart.

It was actually a realization of what her father, Reynaldo Ongpauco, told her when she was young. “My dad would always tell me, ‘you know, when you get married one day dapat ang ring mo heart. Kasi sayang yung name mo’.” Hence, her favorite diamond cut is obviously heart-shaped.

But Heart is not limiting herself to heart-shaped pieces. The actress-turned-painter is known to stack jewelry to create a bolder, bigger look—something that she can achieve with My Diamond’s Diamond Dream collection.

For the second time, the Filipino jewelry brand tapped Heart to become its ambassador.

“The first time was last year during the time of her engagement until her wedding. This time around, we’re renewing the relationship and we’re continuing on for Heart to endorse until end of the year,” says John Paul Paglinawan, marketing manager of the Cullinan Group of Companies, which operates My Diamond.

The Diamond Dream collection is composed of stud and drop earrings, which can be worn alone or stacked together for bolder statement. Each piece is handmade by internationally trained craftsmen.

While Heart has no hand in designing any of the pieces, she admits to looking forward to venturing in jewelry designing, too. But right now, she’s working on her 2017-18 collection, which she’ll be exhibiting at Ayala Museum late next year or in February 2018. “I’m working hard for that ‘cause I still have a lot to go.”

She also shares that she’s going to develop her own line of clutch bags in a limited edition only, “so that the value won’t go down. They’re still an artwork.” She is also planning to put together a home line and design clothes for kids.

The ever-present Heart has so many plans but on top of her list is to get pregnant by January or February next year. And to do that, she admits that she needs to take a break. “I kinda need my time to breathe a little and enjoy.”

My Diamond is in 11 malls nationwide, and will soon open its 12th branch in Cebu.
