‘Usman’ slows, moves westward

Tropical depression “Usman” continued to slow down while moving generally westward on Thursday afternoon.

It may intensify into a tropical storm before making landfall in Eastern Samar tomorrow (Friday), according to weather forecasters.

It is forecast to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Sunday evening or Monday morning.

Tropical cyclone warning signal no. 1 remained in effect over Romblon, Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Ticao and Burias Islands, Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Northern Cebu, Camotes Islands, Aklan, Capiz, Northern Iloilo, Northern Occidental and Dinagat Island.

As of 4 p.m. Thursday, the center of “Usman” was estimated at 410 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

It was moving west at 10 km per hour, packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 65 kph.
