Supreme Court Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin, aiming to restore the image of a previously “respectable” judiciary, has reminded our employees to observe proper dress code and decorum during office hours.

“It’s high time we went back to that image of the judiciary that is very respected, the judiciary that is conscious of its place in the society,” Bersamin said at the Quezon City Hall of Justice last Wednesday.

Apart from prescribing rules on attire, Bersamin, appointed to the highest judicial post last month, said court employees should also not be seen using their cellphones or shouting in public areas of the courts.

Bersamin, the first chief justice from Abra, urged court employees not to wear t-shirts at work.

Women wearing collarless shirts should put on a blazer, while men should only wear collared tops, Bersamin, who will retire in Oct. 19, said, adding “and no loud colors, please.”

During the Supreme Court’s Christmas party on Friday, Bersamin also stressed the need for individual changes to achieve reform in the judiciary.

As an example, he said using Facebook and one’s cellphone during office hours reduced time that should be spent on duty.
