According to SWS, 41 percent of Filipinos are Internet users, recording a steady increase from eight percent since the pollster started the survey 12 years ago.

Based on the September 2018 survey, Internet use remains highest in Metro Manila at 64 percent. This was four points higher than the previous 60 percent figure in June.

“Internet use also increased by five points in Balance Luzon, from 42 percent in June to a new record-high 47 percent in September. This surpassed the previous record of 43 percent in June 2017,” the pollster said.

“However, it fell by nine points in the Visayas, from the record-high 37 percent in June to 28 percent in September,” he added.

Internet use also decreased by two points in Mindanao, from 29 percent in June to 27 percent in September.

The SWS also found out that since December 2015, Internet use has been higher among women at 42 percent in September, which was down by three points from the 45 percent in June, compared to men, at 40 percent, which increased by four points from the previous 36 percent record.

It is also highest among younger Filipinos. Internet use is highest among 18-24-year-olds, at 81 percent in September from the previous 82 percent in June.

This was followed by 25-34-year-olds, at 65 percent from the previous 64 percent; 35-44-year-olds, at 44 percent from 41 percent; 45-54-year-olds, at 27 percent from 31 percent; and those 55 years old and above, at 12 percent from the previous 14 percent.

Meanwhile, in terms of educational attainment, Internet use is also highest among college graduates at 73 percent in September from 78 percent in June.

This was followed by high school graduates at 56 percent from the 55 percent; elementary graduates at 26 percent from 21 percent; and the figure remained the same for non-elementary school graduates at nine percent.

The said survey, conducted from Sept. 15 to 23, used face-to-face interviews of 1,500 Filipino adults nationwide. It has sampling error margins of ±3 percent for national percentages, ±4 percent for Balance Luzon, and ±6 percent each for Metro Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao.
