Commission on Elections spokesperson James Jimenez on Monday resigned as a focal person of the local source code review for the 2019 automated elections after a photo of sexy actress in swimsuit appeared during the poll body’s launching of source code review last Saturday.

The photo of bikini-clad actress Jessy Mendiola flashed during the review kick-off event at the De La Salle University, to the surprise of elections reviewers from the National Citizens’ Movement for Free Elections, Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting, different political parties, and other stakeholders.

The local source code will be used for the May 2019 automated elections, including QR (quick response) codes that will help ensure the accuracy, security, and transparency of the polls.

Because of the incident, Jimenez apologized and took responsibility for the incident, saying the image inadvertently appeared because it was his personal computer that was used during the presentation event.

“I would like to apologize for the inappropriateness of the image,” Jimenez said.

“The image was on my computer, she was a desktop image,” he said.

“I take responsibility and I apologize. I regret it. Because of that, I resigned as a focal person for the local source code review,” he added.

“If I don’t acknowledge it, it will affect the integrity of the process. Ultimately, this is for the transparency and overall credibility of the institution I serve.”

The poll spokesman said he resigned to preserve the Comelec’s source code review’s integrity and transparency.

However, Jimenez will remain as spokesperson and director for the planning department of the Comelec.
