Joma, after coma yarn, dares Rody to release medical data

Communist Party of the Philippines founding chairman Jose Maria Sison on Sunday dared President Rodrigo Duterte to join him in releasing their medical records to the public.

“I challenge Duterte to submit himself to medical examination by the best independent diagnosticians of the Philippine General Hospital in order to establish whether he is physically and mentally fit for his position,” Sison said in a statement.

“Despite my right to privacy as a private citizen, I am willing to show a true and verifiable medical certification on the state of my health as soon as he shows his own medical certification as a matter of public interest,” he added.

The challenge comes a week after the two took turns casting doubt on the state of health of the other.

Last week, Sison said he received unverified reports that the President had fallen into a coma, a claim Duterte denied. He then said it was Sison who had been in and out of hospitals in The Netherlands, where he has lived in exile for three decades.

The Palace, meanwhile, dismissed claims by opposition lawmaker Magdalo Gary Alejano that the President’s statements about wanting to resign were indications that he was sick.

“Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano’s misinformation is certainly in aid of election,” said Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque Sunday morning. “We hope the people will judge him accordingly.”

“Just this week, we have seen the Chief Executive in his usual fiery self-addressing the Conference of the League of Municipalities Visayas Island Cluster in Cebu and the 12th Anniversary of the Eastern Mindanao Command in Davao,” he said.

“The President has always been forthright about his condition. What he is experiencing is typical of people of his age,” he added.

Earlier, Alejano called for a disclosure of Duterte’s state of health.

“This is not the first time we heard from the President that he wants to resign. More often, we would also hear from his speeches rants over being tired and experiencing illnesses due to old age,” Alejano said in a statement.

“The public has the right to know the health status of the President,” he added.

The President has denied all claims that he is seriously ill, but has admitted he suffers from back pains, migraines, and Buerger’s disease.
