Tropical Storm “Karding” has maintained its strength while moving generally northwestward Friday afternoon, the state weather bureau said.

Meanwhile, a low-pressure area west of the country and outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility had developed into a tropical depression and continued to enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing rain to most of Luzon.

The center of “Karding” was estimated at 1,060 kilometers east northeast of Basco, Batanes packing maximum winds of 75 km per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 90 km/h.

It was moving northwest at 20 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration added.

“Karding” will not make landfall and was forecast to exit the PAR between Friday night and Saturday morning, Pagasa said.

The tropical depression west of the country would not enter PAR, but both it and “Karding” will continue to enhance the “habagat” to bring monsoon rains in Batanes, Babuyan group of islands, Ilocos, Cordillera Administrative Region and the western section of Central Luzon.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience scattered light to moderate rains with at times heavy rains, the bureau added.
