Tropical Depression “Inday” has intensified further and may become a tropical storm within the next 24 hours, the weather bureau said Wednesday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Inday was packing winds of 60 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of 75 kph, and was spotted 755 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes, at 3 pm.
The agency said Inday will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon and bring moderate to heavy rain over Luzon.
“Inday may intensify into a tropical storm within the next 24 hours,” Pagasa said.
Meanwhile, a total of 1,120 people, mostly from Cavite and Rodriguez, Rizal, were evacuated due to the floods brought by the southwest monsoon and Tropical Storm “Henry,” the Philippine National Police in Calabarzon reported Wednesday.
As of 5 am Wednesday, 870 evacuees were evacuated from Rodriguez, Rizal, 119 from Imus and 131 from Tanza in Cavite.
A lone casualty was reported in Calatagan, Batangas, where 12 people were stranded in the floods.
Floods were also reported in some areas in Nasugbu, Batangas, and in Cainta and San Mateo in Rizal.
Meanwhile, a portion of Barangay Ligas in Bacoor City and the road near the spillway in Catandala in Ibaan, Batangas, were reported not accessible to all types of vehicles.
PNP Calabarzon said 252 search-and-rescue personnel had been deployed, mostly to Laguna and Batangas, while 1,002 personnel were on standby.
In Metro Manila, the amount of rain that fell on the capital over two days equaled a third of the deluge from Tropical Storm “Ondoy” in 2009, Pagasa said. With PNA
