THE House committee on transportation will consider  criminalizing the cancellation of passengers’ bookings by the drivers of transport network vehicle services or TNVS and the refusal of taxi drivers to transport passengers to any destination, an official said Sunday.

Rep. Edgar Mary Sarmiento, the panel’s vice chairman, said they will resume the deliberations on several pending bills that will regulate TNVS when Congress reopens on May 15.

“Rest assured that we are going to work on this to protect the riding public,” Sarmiento said.

Rep. Raneo Abu, a deputy speaker, supported Sarmiento and urged the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board to protect the riding public from abusive taxi drivers.

“I strongly urge the LTFRB to ensure that the rights of the riding public are protected and that the rules regulating the TNVS are strictly and clearly implemented,” he said.
