A REGIONAL Trial Court has ordered the arrest of the suspects in the hazing death of University of Santo Tomas law freshman Horacio Castillo III in September last year.

Alfredo Ampuan, the presiding judge of Manila RTC Branch 40, found probable cause to charge the accused based on his evaluation of the Justice department’s resolution indicting them.

He ordered the arrest of Mhin Weig Chan, Jose Miguel Salamat, John Robin Ramos, Marcelino Bagtang Jr., Arvin Balag, Ralph Trangia, Axel Munro Hipe, Oliver Onofre, Joshua Joriel Macabali and Hans Matthew Rodrigo, all members of the Aegis Juris fraternity.

UST expelled eight law students tagged in Castillo’s fatal hazing last month, but it refused to identify the students.

Castillo died while undergoing initiation rites at the Aegis Juris fraternity on Sept. 17.

His death put the spotlight on fraternities and their culture of hazing, prompting lawmakers to amend the anti-hazing law.
