PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte said he should receive a salary of P1.5 million instead of P200,000 a month because of heavy work load as President of the Republic.

Duterte made the suggestion in his speech at the 6th Regional Community Defense Group Ground, Camp General Adriano Hernandez, Dingle, Iloilo, saying the P200,000 monthly salary was not enough since he had two wives.

“My ideal salary, I estimate I should earn, no joke, one million and five hundred for all my weariness,” he said.

A bill filed by Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, the Senate Bill No. 1689 or the Salary Standardization Law 4, which proposes an “omnibus compensation and position classification system for civil servants, and military and uniformed personnel” is still pending at the Senate.

The proposal is to raise the salary of the President to P1 million; Cabinet secretaries should have salaries each of  P600,000  to P800,000 a month.

Duterte complained he had a busy daily schedule that included meetings in Malacañang and provincial trips.

“I have complained to them. P200,000 really? I don’t have meal allowance, representation. I go home alone, go to work and then my barge is old and weak,” he said.

The President said he was also commuting back and forth from Manila to his hometown Davao City during weekends.
