Leni’s rating dives amid ‘black prop’

VICE President Leni Robredo’s net satisfaction rating dipped by 11 points in the first quarter of the year, even as the ratings of other top government officials also declined except for House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, the latest Social Weather Stations survey revealed.

The survey, conducted from March 25 to 28 at the height of the criticisms against her speaking against President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs before a United Nations body, showed more than half of those surveyed, or 53 percent, said they were satisfied with Robredo’s performance with 27 percent dissatisfied. Those undecided stood at 19 percent.

Senator Paolo Benigno Aquino IV on Tuesday said  the satisfaction rating of Robredo went down due to black propaganda.

“This was expected with all the black propaganda against her, but it only affected a small percentage of the respondents as the majority are still supportive of the vice president,” Aquino said in a text message.

Robredo gained a “moderate” +26 net satisfaction rating, some 11 points down from her +37 in the previous quarter.

Her numbers have steadily declined since September 2016 after she saw another five-percent dip between December 2016 and March this year.

Meanwhile, the number of dissatisfied respondents went up to 27 percent from 21 percent in December 2016 and 16 percent in September 2016.

House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, who criticized Robredo and threatened impeachment against her, stayed “moderate” at +12, two points higher than last December’s also “moderate” +10.

Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III’s ratings slightly dropped in the first quarter by one grade to “moderate” from last December’s “good.”

Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno’s satisfaction rating also dipped by 2 points in the first quarter, staying “moderate” at +14 from +16 last December.

The camp of Robredo on Tuesday said the decline in her satisfaction rating was a reminder to reach out to more Filipinos.

“These results are a steady reminder that there are more families and communities to reach out to,”  Georgina Hernandez, Robredo’s spokeswoman, said in a statement.

“We take every survey as a continuing challenge to do better and make a bigger difference in the lives of the marginalized.”

Still, Robredo’s camp extended their thanks for the Filipinos’ support for her.

“We are grateful for the continued trust of our fellow Filipinos in the recent SWS Satisfaction ratings. The support of the majority is an encouragement to Vice President Leni Robredo, who is working with communities and partners to address poverty around the country,” Hernandez said.
