THE Philippine National Police has completed the mandatory random drug testing of the entire 165,000 personnel with 195 policemen found positive for illegal drugs.

Supt. Irene Rigonan, officer-in-charge of the Operations Management Division of the Crime Laboratory, said seven of the 195 cops who tested positive were non-uniformed personnel while 188 were active policemen.

Statistics from the OMD showed that 29 policemen confirmed positive for shabu use, followed by Calabarzon with 21, PRO-ARMM (19), Central Visayas, (18), PRO-3 with 17.

The completion of the drug test among PNP personnel dating back on July 1, 2016, represents 90 percent of the entire laboratory process aimed to determine the involvement of policemen in illegal drugs used during their tour of duty, Rigonan said.

Rigonan said the Police Regional Office in the Cordillera Administration Region (CAR) yielded no policemen in the illegal drugs use during the drug testing.

The ranking police official to have found positive for drugs uses is a Chief Inspector with an equivalent rank of Major to the military while the lowest is Police Officer-1, Rigonan added.

The mandatory random drug testing among the 165,000 strong police force was based on the orders of Duterte to PNP Chief Ronaldo Dela Rosa to rid the institution of rogue personnel particularly with participation to illegal drugs trade.
